THE FIRST BOOK OF ENGLAND

By

Publisher: Franklin Watts

Wisely, Noel Streatfeild has not attempted in brief compass to give youngsters a tabloid history, but rather she has attempted- and in large measure succeeded- in conveying something of the feel of England and its people. From coronets to crumpets the England of homes and traditions comes across, engagingly, succinctly: her mores and points of view, her abbeys and institutions, her way of life and forms of government, her games and holidays and schools. And specifically her great figures in history and literature and the arts and the world scene, from Boadicca to Winston Churchill. A jolly goodwill builder, which is sorely needed. Giois Flammenghi's heavy line drawings, with their humorous cartoon quality, give individuality all their own to the text.
