A lusty story of our own southwest, with the central character an Amazonian woman, with a touch of the iron and a touch of a softer, gentler metal. From her tomboyish childhood, through her stormy youth, to her marriage with the ineffectual Rule, we feel the force and play of her personality on all around her. Tempestuous, ambitious, overbearing at times, she is a character that compels reluctant admiration. The Oklahoma background and the vigorous picture of rural life, suggests more the vitality of STATE FAIR, with a pungent intermixture of just a bit of the Caldwell gusto, than the conventional novel of the soil.
