A TRAIN FOR JANE

If a girl named lane asks Santa for a train and Mom says that toy is meant for a boy, is that any reason to ruin the season with doggerel verse that couldn't be worse? Surely the nonsexist toy is a familiar enough concept by now that we need not be grateful for this slapdash effort -- especially when it comes from Norma Klein and the Feminist Press who ought to be capable of attaining minimal literary values and a modicum of sincerity. Schottland's eye-bending two-dimensional pastiches, fussed up with irrelevant, rococo collage, only make matters worse. By Christmas morning ""there's no one more happy/ On land or on sea"". . .except the poor kid who's expected to find all this self-congratulatory banality a liberating experience.
