Promises, promises. Ford is pushing Natural Hygiene--vegetarian diet, regular exercise and fasting--as the panacea for all kinds of illnesses and a certain longer life. Disdainful of the medical establishment, he outlines his better way to rid the body of toxins and gives numerous examples of ailments (cancer, diabetes, atherosclerosis) which disappeared entirely under the Natural Hygiene regimen. Apparently, there were no failures. The problem is a repetitious text filled with undocumented statements, partial truths, and glaring untruths which totally undermine his credibility. The writing is flabby (""Eliminate almost all risk of getting cancer by approximately 50 percent"") and skewed (""Although no statistics are available, birth defects among naturally born babies of Hygienic parents seem almost unknown""). And the arguments often lack bite: ""Compared to just a few types of meats, fish, poultry, and dairy foods, you'll find literally dozens of fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds to choose from."" As for insomnia: ""Another sleep-provoking step is to read a rather dull book before bedtime."" We know one to recommend.
