Another story about Picken, the little jungle boy, and his monkey, Benjie -- the second in a captivating series. Mr. Davis has created a likeable, very real boy in Picken and Benjie is a child's dream of a pet. Also, as in Picken's Great Adventure (P. 175-1950) the exciting adventures of Picken are never weighted down by encyclopedic regional detail. In this story, Picken, son of a Gambian chief in an African village, accompanies the fishermen of the coast on a dangerous fishing trip, rescues an old man from a tiger, takes part in the Celebration of the Full Moon, and saves Benjie from death in a jungle fire.
