In the firm belief that all good things come to he who plots, psychiatrist and corporate consultant Lecker has identified seven personality traits that the upward-bound should strengthen, with ""suggested procedures to correct malfunctions."" The winning seven include thinking big, assuming complete responsibility, reasoning abstractly, etc. Exercises and quizzes are anxious to point out the error of the nonsubscriber's way: ""If you are unable to name three people whom you have come to hate thus far in your life, you are excessively defensive about your own anger."" Lecker's bizarre personal anecdotes, however, are not exactly encouraging--after all, how many proud fathers will describe their two-year-old's efforts with a jigsaw puzzle as indicating she was ""strong in the Field Freedom trait and also had the Power of Contrary Thinking, an offshoot of the Field Freedom capability?"" But then self-proclaimed losers may have nothing to lose if they retain the Power of Contrary Thinking.
