Despite the title, there is comparatively little in the test that deals with the external structure of the plane. The emphasis is definitely on the fuel system, the cooling system, lubrication, types of engines, propeller, instruments, including the gyro compass and the automatic pilot, the internal control of landing gear, radio, etc.
