Keep slugging"" is Dr. Peale's advice to the man on the street who would make a success of life and be happy in the process. The ""slugging"" gloves the author proposes are made up of the teachings of Christ put in the skins of up-to-date psychology. The burden of the book is right in step with the writer's former publications on positive thinking. The content emphasizes Dr. Peale and is replete with countless anecdotes which often over-illustrate; the cast of characters changes, but the story is the same. Chapter headings tell the story -- ""How to Handle Situations and Yourself""; ""Have Prosperity and Enjoy Life""; ""Attack Problems Hopefully""; ""Pray Your Way Through Difficulties"", and will help to sell many volumes. The ""Tough Minded Optimist"" will have to be genuinely tough minded to take some of the criticism he will get from ceremonialists and intellectual theologians. However, many a more simple-minded man will read and find an approach to Christ they may never have had before. These are the people to whom Dr. Peale customarily addresses himself.
