THE JACK SPRAT COOKBOOK

By

Publisher: Doubleday

The title indicates a dual cookbook, for the man who must watch his weight while his wife is not counting calories. On this score it is disappointing and even the ""lean"" part of the cookbook, while making obeisance to ""skinned"" milk and yogurt, breaks many rules in other directions. And in between them both-- there's mayonnaise, cream and dumplings. A few of the recipes seem worth trying but they flaunt tricky names that annoy rather than attract and there are some that really offend the more sensitive palate, a chocolate coating for chicken livers for example. Not recommended.
