A fact-filled survey of cancer today and although the statistics are frightening (forty million Americans today will contract it- or 1 out of 4) still there is some hope of a breakthrough within the next 10 years. Also the chances for survival- for its current victims- are much better than they were five years ago. Most of Battista's book deals with the various avenues of approach: the chemistry of cellular activity and chemotherapy which has made great advances (24 drugs are now in use- 100 still being tested); the virus as a cause, and cure; hormones- another link and suspect offender; natural immunity, arrests, and the hope of a vaccine; environmental influences; leukemia and the new drugs (postponement at best); cancer surgery- and the risk; etc., etc. Battista uses few words to present a great deal of information, based on current research in all parts of the world and his book is a record of work in progress-rather than a placebo.
