SECRETS OF SANCTITY OF ST. JOHN OF THE CROSS

This series of reflections, based on the author's views on what he takes to be the secret of sanctity of St. John of the Cross, are intended for religious as a guide to helping them overcome the materialism which Father Lucas sees permeating even the convents. If this book gives the inside picture of what spiritual directors inflict on Nuns as a basis for their meditations. It is indeed a dismal and certainly unhappy one. May that not be so today. This book is convincing proof that all who would benefit from the counsels of that giant of the spiritual life, St. John of the Cross, would do well to go to the original and not depend on such ""close-minded"" interpretations as are contained here. The profusion of abstractions of these commentaries compound the dullness of the exposition. Only those who wish to do penance as they read spiritual works will gain merit from these interpretations of Father Lucas. If Father Lucas has discovered the Secrets of Sanctity of St. John of the Cross he is just saying that he has. The proof is not here.
