A temperate journalist's report on a year there covers 25 African territories ranging from ""Frenchified"" Dakar, through seething British-held colonies, into mysterious Dahomey, and on to the proud Semitic Kingdom of Haile Selassie. Frankly sketchy, this nevertheless gets things at first hand from native intellectuals rather than top brass and sees an Africa emerging from primitivism at a surprising rate.
