The author of a number of San Francisco background books (fact and fiction) with another California setting for a plain tale of passion in the story of Bruce Priest, and Elaine, the girl he still loves. He had met her when he was working his way through Berkeley; he gave up college to get a job and enough money to marry her, craving the excitement and instability she offered in contrast to his natural sobriety. And then Elaine runs off with another man. Bruce loses his job, gets a depression job as a book salesman, re-meets Elaine, now through with a second marriage, and only when he finds her involved in another affair does he drop the plan to marry her. He gets a chance in an advertising agency and makes good; sees Elaine again and thinks he is through with her, and then decides he'll take a chance with instability with her to monotony alone... A passable performance, which stays in character but lacks charm.
