HOW TO GET ALONG IN THE ARMY

There have been numerous handbooks for the selectees, but this seems to me to contain more sound commonsense and less straight regulations duplicated in official manuals) than any of the others. It is done from the inside, with some looking back to the last war, but with the emphasis on here and now. The market is the prospective soldier, as well as those already ""in the mill"". Done in chatty colloquial style, it covers, step by step, advance preparation for physical fitness, what to take and what not to take, the dos and the don'ts for the early days, the etiquette of the army and why, looking forward to the future and a job after the war, before the time comes. Then -- for the youth actually in training, data as to opportunities for advance, for increased pay; savings through insurance; data on equipment, medical and legal advantages, etc. An appendix contains miscellaneous reference material. The problems of dependents and their status is sketchily handled, probably because it is still in an uncertain state. Should find readers among boys under draft age too.
