PRAYING MANTIS

The agile insect whose forelegs are for preying needs his color for protection but these warm black-and-white drawings won't do him any harm (even if they don't do him full justice). The text covers habitat and habits, distribution, reproduction and life cycle, making it a safe choice for larger collections. Hylander (Insects on Parade) and Zim (Insects) have only token entries (and Newman's Man and Insects has virtually nothing) but Teale's Junior Book of Insects has a comparable section without illustrations.
