KIRKUS REVIEW

The Cherokee Indian Reservation at Qualla, North Carolina, was home to Kamama Youngwood. Kamama could see through the sullen facade of homeless Smoky Joe, the unwanted boy who terrified Kamama with his threats. When Kamama observed Smoky Joe caring for Snifty, her pet baby bear, she knew that her trusted friend, John Falcon, was correct when he said that no one is all good or bad. Through Kamama's intervention, the Indian Fair brought little Snifty a chance to hold center stage, and Smoky Joe found a new home with John Falcon. Pleasant reading about animals and human nature without distinction.
