THE STORY OF MARCO POLO

In view of the fantastic amount of fabulous real adventures Marco Polo had- this biography which makes him far more of a stock hero than the active and observant traveler that he was, falls short. We learn that he set sail for Cathay as an excited boy, gets nearly lost in the desert, exposes the treacherous Ahmad in a melodramatically described bit of court intrigue, goes gloriously to Yunnan as ambassador, hunts for magnificent jewels in Ceylon-- all of which is true, but hardly a balanced picture. Again we'd like to recommend antother, Marco Polo by Manuel Komroff (Messner) to satisfy the more inquisitive.
