THE WIND CHANGES by Olivia Manning

THE WIND CHANGES

By

Publisher: Knopf

A first novel -- and a definite indication of talent in the ability to convey subtle though confused personalities in inner conflict. The exterior action -- revolving around a plan to foment another Irish rebellion -- is subordinate in interest to the conflict with the three main characters, -- Arion, imperturable English journalist, Scan, young boy patriot and hero worshipper, Elizabeth, directionless, needing someone to hold on to. Book lacks integration. Virtually no popular appeal -- but watch her. The book may get deserved critical acclaim.
