ONE SKY TO SEARS: The French & American Journals of...

Known to an American audience far beyond the Catholic reading public through his Seven Miracles of Gubbio and The Stork and the Jewels. Father Bruckberger here tells his own story as a French ""commando"" and chaplain of the Resistance forces. Dorothy Carr Howell has translated the journals and they make absorbing reading. The first part deals with his experiences during World War II, through the invasion and defeat of France, when he was wounded and captured by the Germans. Upon his release, he joined the Underground, and his journals highlight that dramatic and desperate fight culminating in the liberation of Paris. Father Bruckberger's frank comments on events and trends in France are most revealing, and not less interesting are his reactions to American life as recorded in the American Journals of the last few years. He is a distinct observer with a distinct flair for vivid writing. Imprimi Potest.
