A first person account of espionage which combines the mechanics of an over-glamourized, underpaid branch of service along with their practical application in some of the episodes (rather than exploits) in which Pinto figured during the last war. From the phenomenal memory, patience, linguistic versatility, psychological acuity, and courage which are basic in this business, to the methods of interrogation which are used, Pinto- a Dutchman who was attached to the British Counter-Intelligence-demonstrates these powers as they enabled him to identify the fourth man who was missing in a German landing party; as he tabbed a German agent who was given away by his Teutonic thoroughness; as he found the flaw in the story of a fugitive- a story which took thirteen days to break; and as he exposed the treachery of Christian Lindemans, a truculent and more than life-sized hero of the Dutch resistance who was known as King Kong, and who doomed the Arnhem landings by informing to the Germans..... No literary veneer, but a more than usually interesting demonstration of the finer points of a precision game.
