CRYES OF LONDON TOWN

From the town crier call at three in the morning, past the peddlers and tinkers and rat killer, with a whistle for the ""chimney swepe"" to the town crier at midnight, this is an ugly book. The ""Cryes,"" in olde spellynge, have little meaning for modern American children, and the illustrations--crudely and too sharply colored--are grotesque exaggerations of Elizabethan London and the articles/activities in the lyrics. Music included; nevertheless, a cryynge shame.
