KIRKUS REVIEW

Although there is a considerable amount of material on immigrants to America, their children and their children's children as contributors to and representatives of a dual, emerging culture are seldom taken into account at full value. This book is made up of extracts from essays, plays, novels, short stories, lectures and poetry. Altogether, these make for informative and entertaining comment on what's gone into the American spirit and they are all by second and third generation Americans. The approaches are as varied as the hyphenated nationalities of the contributors, some of whom are: David Belasco, Joel Chandler Harris, Carl Sandburg, Fiorello H. LaGuardia, Arthur Schlesinger and William Saroyan.
