Short tempers and long shots mark the cattle-sheep range feud in Elkhorn, Montana territory, in the 1880's, and it is Doc Carter, of the Cattlemen's Protective Association, who is instrumental in clearing it up. One of his aides working with the sheepmen, the other with the ranchers, and Carter posing as a geologist reveal other interests, and wider plotting before Carter can account for the whole caboodle.
