NOT for public libraries -- or for conservatives -- or, in fact, for many whose feelings are easily lacerated. Pretty lascivious -- this story of Nicolin, maladjusted relic of post-war Rumania, poor, embittered, unsuccessful. Gregory, a school chum, took him on as a secretary, and Nicolin became his very active ""ghost"" -- turning out the speeches which the political machine demanded for its fascistic activities. Nicolin fell violently in love with his chief's wife -- and failed to prove his virility in ignominious fashion. The husband meantime was busy elsewhere, with seduction, physical and political. Nicolin wasted away to death; the neglected wife found satisfaction on her own, and Gregory built bigger and better fascistic organization.
