OUR MILITARY CHAOS by Oswald Garrison Villard

This is a damning book. If the statements made and the claims set forth are true, and I have no basis on which to judge their accuracy (although I have seen definitely conflicting testimony elsewhere), ""now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of the party"" -- and determine upon an investigation of the claims that we are impregnable, that our national defense is indeterminate, that waste and duplication and inefficiency and ignorance are rife, that the war lobby is in control, etc., etc. It is a frightening picture Mr. Villard paints, of a nation gone mad in spending for a defense that need not exist, for expansion that is not necessary, for expenditures that are unplanned and uncoordinated -- all towards militarizing a nation that wants peace.
