Much more applicable than the most recent predecessor (Riddle & Hyams' Weekend Gambler's Handbook) an old pro provides some sound principles of ""judicious"" betting as against reckless gambling. Along with a little history, and one moral-play for what you can afford to lose. Jacoby devotes most of his book to the Theory of Probability, which can and should govern your expectations, along with some extensive statistics: this can be used in figuring the odds in gambling house games, horses, etc. and bridge and poker where skill (not just luck) obtains. There is a disabusing chapter on the more common systems, and why they all fail..... Monsieurs, faites vos jeux- advisedly.
