A small, slick parable is bo a rebuke and an admonition and tells of Matthew Bone, scientist and future Secretary of Defense, who in the love of his country- and to save it, attempts to take his life in the Lincoln Memorial. A successful man, happily married, Bone is haunted by the last words of his former mentor, by the ""cancer of the soul"" which is destroying America. His attempted suicide, a dramatic one, is preceded by the equally enigmatic letters to thirty persons- and the dime each contains (the thirty places of silver), until the meaning of his act and the urgency of his message is made clear.... While no one can question the intentions here, sincerity is not quite enough.
