THE OWL AND THE PUSSYCAT

Publisher: Harper

A lightly tossed salad -- of a ferryboat captain who yearns for faraway places and the boundless sea, his daughter, Helga, who is keeping her father ignorant that a bridge is to be built and the ferry closed, a young engineer, Sam, in love with Helga but wary of her. The race to buy the boat results in murder aboard, and the Captain heads out to sea with all passengers. It is up to Sam to find the killer, placate the wily Captain, and keep the handful of passengers in order. A fight with a fire hose, the collapse of the Captain with mal de mer, sends the boat home, where, once on land the Captain turns his back on the sea forever, pulls a fast one on the sale, and Sam gets Helga. Cheery and chummy gossamer.
