KIRKUS REVIEW

An introduction to the theoretical works of the great Irish leader who was executed for his part in the Easter Rebellion of 1916. Highly regarded by Lenin, Connolly was unique in his comprehension of the relationship between revolutionary socialism and revolutionary nationalism. Berresford also includes portions of Connolly's writings on women's rights, the Catholic Church, trade unions, imperialism and culture (though not The Red Flag, the song that became the anthem of the British Labour Party). Overdue.
