Mrs. Spottsworth, American widow leaning towards the purchase of Towcester Abbey; old Bill engaged to Jill but having known the widow in her earlier marriage; old Bill, with Jeeves' connivance, working as a Silver Ring book- maker and having welched on a bet of Captain Biggar's; the Captain, his heart long since stolen by the widow, yearning to wreak his vengeance on Honest Patch Perkins (Bill); the matter of the widow's pendant (quite a mite) which is to be stolen and risked on the Derby --and you can see that Jeeves has his hands full in keeping this frying pan from needing the fire department. Don't look now but your head is swimming.
