DIRECTORIUM SPONSAE, Vol. V

This slender volume is the fifth and last in Father Bertsche's series of meditations designed to cover the liturgical year. The present volume supplies material for the period from Pentecost to the end of the Church year, and is broken down into daily meditations. Each selection is brief and to the point; yet, each is regrettably cluttered with the pietistic forms so dear to other centuries: ""No longer listen to the seductive songs of the sirens, the call of the world, or the lure of your own sinful nature!"" Thus, the real value of much of what Father Bertsche has to say will be lost when, as seems inevitable, the modern reader loses patience. The book cannot therefore safely be recommended to any but the old, or the old-fashioned.
