THE INNOCENT CURATE

By

Publisher: Doubleday

Some high church high jinks feature the activities of the social and clesiastical guiding lights of Schinderhook, New York-- the wealthy beldames of the parish and one Dr. Groby, unctuously ambitious and very successful in ""the ulton Sheen style"". Then too, there's this new curate, Sonny Ball, with a acerdotal Ivy League look"", Rosemary Van Vranken, a non-believer, who falls in love with him, and another young couple, Oakes Broussard who teaches English, and ophie, his bride. None of this gets moving until toward the close when at a church dance Sonny receives the Stigmata: Dr. Groby tries to quarantine him; ocialite Mrs. Cooper wants him to become an anchorite; a Colonel wants him to ead a crusade; but Rosemary, who considers it all autopsychosomatic, finds that love rather than faith works miracles.... Lots of intellectual jokes and jeux esprit-- which do not quite make a novel.
