LILIAN RUSSELL: The Era of Plush

Indulgent biography of a glamor girl, regaling the reader with decade by decade account of her rise to fame, and tenacious hold on a place in the sun. Daughter of a militant mother, trading on her beauty and popularity in the show business, friend of Diamond Jim, of Jesse Lewisohn,of Gilbert and Sullivan, at home in the law courts, she is scarcely a subject for serious biography. But the underlining of the fashionable foibles of the day, the changing pattern of the decades, give this a touch of pre-Frederick Allen history. Pop stuff, slickly done.
