ARMS AND THE AFTERMATH

This is a reportorial rather than a critical job. Primarily a technical and factual book (much of it difficult reading) there is a good deal of stimulating reading. Against a background of what was done in production during the last war, he goes into the steps by which expansion in this war is geared to better realization of peace time expectations. He covers the motor industry, textiles, aviation, steel, aluminum, railroads, tool and machine plants, and so on. Not as informative as Stone's Business As Usual (page ), but perhaps more objective for the average reader. Discloses fact that surveys are intensively under way towards future preservation of the best in capitalism, on the part of the government and of industry itself. Not a blueprint, but at least an indication that the problem is on the books.
