Lifestyle changes for better health--based on a macrobiotic diet, yoga and exercise, and meditation. This is a follow-up to Recalled by Life: The Story of My Recovery from Cancer (1982), in which Sattilaro told how such changes helped bring about his recovery from metastatic prostate cancer. He and Monte first discuss the diet--which ideally consists of 50 percent whole grains, 25 percent locally grown cooked vegetables, 15 percent beans and seaweeds, and the balance soups and various condiments. A transition diet eases the way in making such changes, and recipes and cooking tips are included. The authors next set out a reasonable, simple exercise program consisting of walking, calisthenics, and some yoga-based routines. The final section is a responsible discussion of the role of the mind in healing, with considerable attention to the power of faith. For self-teaching, exercises in the use of imagery are fully explained. Altogether: a modest, clear explanation of a program that's gotten some attention due to Sattilaro's earlier account; alone it may not win converts, but the like-thinking will find it a helpful guide to a regimen that at least isn't harmful.
