And then, of course, the Greeks--ah, the Greeks..."" this opening line, by no means as aimlessly adrift as it seem, indicates that In Deep will be mired in brackish waters although Miss Cooper barely palps the oedipal situation with which she is dealing here. Katie Ryan is summoned by her stepmother to find her brother Nicholas--his wife Elizabeth has finally left him after seven years. Now Nicholas is a ""sickness"" from which Katie has never recovered, and he's also responsible for her loss of Max, the lover who wanted to marry her and who now gives her a second chance to stop playing ""brothers keepers losers weepers."" This all takes place in and around New York and is told in a rather agitated fashion, gravid with memories, regrets, inferences and expectations only sketchily fulfilled.
