AMERICAN WOMEN AND ALCOHOL by Patricia Keat

AMERICAN WOMEN AND ALCOHOL

By

Publisher: Holt, Rinehart & Winston

Probably the most sobering aspects of Mrs. Kent's book is her tone of voice-- actually she's intimidating, although otherwise, she doesn't have too much that is really new to say about alcoholism which might justify the title, or the differentiation between the woman who sips and the man who nips. Basically it's the same disease with immaturity, insecurity, etc., as its causative factor. She indicates its ravaging effects on your looks, on your job performance, on your behavior with men; recommends AA (Mrs. Kent is a member thereof) as the best way out; psychiatry helps only sometimes, and religion along does not. Throughout she condemns pills of all kinds (to wake up or go to bed with) as a co-evil addiction.... All in all superficial, with a great deal of reiteration.
