Having finished her British schooling at 15, Janet Fraser has one summer to enjoy her pony and daily rides before joining the corps of wage earners. An unfortunate accident at the riding school creates a summer job for Janet and so she comes to know Meridien, ""the best horse in the stable."" Meridien's owner rarely visits or rides her, so that Janet thinks of the mare as her own. With the prospect of business school awaiting her, Janet's one ambition is to ride Meridien in the final show of the season, and does, and gets a persuasive job offer from Meridien's new owner, who is a nice guy. Though her parents insist that she go to business school first, it looks as if she'll have a happy, horsey future. A weak story made weaker by British horse talk that only the most avid fan will comprehend.
