Again using batik to create outstanding, unusual illustrations, as she did in Mahy's 17 Kings and 42 Elephants (1987), MacCarthy presents 20 collective nouns, mostly familiar (""a herd of elephants"") but including a couple that are truly obscure (""a clowder of cats""). The flat, brightly colored, white-outlined forms are elegantly combined to make an eye-catching book.
