JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY by Patricia Miles Martin

This series, which also includes titles on George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Christopher Columbus and Pocahontas, is based on second grade word lists. The subject this time is bound to lure the interest of the beginning and slow readers into reading exercises. The facts of a short, distinguished life progress as statements -- what and when rather than how. The PT-109 adventure gets twelve pages of coverage in a sixty-three page, story and the inaugural parade receives more space than the conduct of the Presidency, probably a reasonable assessment of early juvenile interest. The assassination and the funeral are covered quickly with somber dignity. The drawings of President Kennedy and his family are well done, clear likenesses when compared to familiar photographs. The key words of the text are, as usual, listed at the end of the book.
