A pleasant, personal account of a life which was up in the air in more ways than one as marriage to a mountain-climbing husband has its dangers as well as its economic uncertainties. From the successful climb to the top of the Grand Teton in cowboy boots at the age of 11, Paul Petzoldt's love of high places also opened up other worlds- and the Dean of Windsor Castle invited him to spend a year there. The Alps, and the ascent of the Matterhorn seasoned his skill, and he returned from Europe to marry Patricia who joined him on lesser climbs. Paul's membership in an expedition to climb in the Himalayas led to her joining him later in the Orient; they accepted the invitation of a mystic in India and were part of his small coterie until attempts to poison Patricia ended in a killing; the war brought active duty for Paul and later Patricia joined him in Shanghai, got involved in an unprofitable pearl deal, and they returned home to win a homestead in a drawing- and settle down. A life on the hoof-which has its points of human interest rather than any great excitement.
