KIRKUS REVIEW

Carleton is unlikely to reach a popular market with any of his books. But discriminating readers enjoy his intellectualism and his psychological approach. This is a story more on the order of his The Hawk and The Tree than anything else he has written. A story of adolescence and maturity, as represented in the persons of two men, against a setting of English town and Welsh resort. Not easy reading. Go light.
