Our National Parks seem to be capturing the limelight. Here- on a different publisher's list (the Your Fair Land series is published by John Day) is yet another fictional handling, this time of the Grand Canyon, as opposed to the Yosemite. A setting of the Canyon- and the people native to the region- background the story of 16-year old Patty Lynn, who resentfully had left her beloved Yosemite to join her father at the Grand Canyon where he is newly installed as park superintendent. What follows contains the necessary ingredients of routine high school romance, a wholesome heroine, a study hero, an emotional problem over which both can struggle up to its inevitable solution. But in the process Patty helps a new friend, a reticient girl whose fantasy world leads to betrayal and neuroticism. Somewhat more probing, perhaps, than the run of the mill teen age novel.
