KIRKUS REVIEW

A foreword by Sigmund Spaeth introduces this book-of selective record collecting in most enthusiastic terms. And the reader gets what he is promised- for the idea of stimulating musical taste, through chapters graded from light popular music (not jazz) on to rhythmic, melodic programs, symphoniez, concertos, masterpieces, chamber music, is well carried out. Each work is described and analyzed. Basic libraries of definite amounts are listed, so that personal additions may be made. There is a chapter on the making of reco. There are no comparisons of recordings, as the author deliberately choses what he considered best for listing. A valuable guide book for adventures in listening, for all pocketbooks and tastes.
