THE GENTLEMAN FROM AMERICA

An overactive adventure story takes some giant steps with the 6'6"" bearded American, Jack Newbury, who renews his acquaintance with his cousin, the 8th Duke of Northminster, in a tavern. Together they go to St. Petersburg- on a mission for the Iron Duke- to discover Czar Alexander's plans for expansion. In Paris they are followed by a cadaverous Russian, and Jack has an affair with the more fleshy Denise, wife of the French Ambassador, who follows him to Russia. There Jack is kidnapped, imprisoned in Siberia, and escapes with the Prince Kropotkin. Struggling for months through the fantastically bitter Siberian winter, they cross the Mongolian border- as Northminster and Denise- with help from the Czar- search for the ""giant"" prisoner and find him just in time. He and Denise marry- and sail to America.... The story really swashbuckles- and if the action is stretched to fit the story- it's only because even a 6'6"" bearded American can't do everything himself.
