GOOD LUCK AND BAD

In several quarters I've found a deplorable tendency among booksellers to be discouraged over the sporting market in general and to be discouraged over the new Paul Brown, especially. Since Spills and Thrills and Ups and Downs both went out of print immediately, this companion volume should be a sure sale for those who bought the first two, so that they may have the three volumes of this pictorial history of horsey highlights. If anything, Good Luck and Pad is rather better than its predecessors, more accurate drawings of tack and action, and with a perceptible leap in humor in both subjects and captions. It's full of thrilling races and jumps, breath-taking falls and photo finishes. It is a cross section of the horse world -- hardbitten old timers, hard-riding little, girls, poloists, etc. It's all queer, crazy and contradictory and doesn't add up to four for the outsider, but for the sportsman it makes plenty of sense and will make his Christmas.
