KIRKUS REVIEW

A comforting dude story for city slickers with some helpful information about saddle horses and ponies. ""Skinny"" Barnstable, armed with horse information gleaned from the comics, is all set to yippe on one of the ponies on the farm next to his cousins' house. His riding cousins, a wild ride, and an admission of general ignorance make Skinny gar to learn about horses. He participates in the ranch work -- cleaning leather, pitching hay -- and watches the breaking and training of the ponies. Explicit and entertaining for this age level.
