HISTORY OF THE JEWS

This eighth edition of the popular and readable history of the Jewish people since its first publication in 1911 differs essentially in two ways from its predecessors. First, it is an American edition, and the introduction of Rabbi Silver of Cleveland is directed to American Jewry; secondly, the author's longtime friend, Israel Cohen, has revised Mr. Goodman's work and complemented it with three chapters bringing the history up to date from 1919- a task which the author would doubtless have fulfilled if he had lived. The three additional chapters concern the pillage of the Jews in Europe, the active part of Jews in the World War II conflict, and the birth of the Jewish State of Israel. Like the body of the book they are in outline form and comprise a readable sketch of the basic, outstanding facts of Jewish history to date.
