KIRKUS REVIEW

Not up to his Conquest by Man, but good entertainment in this review of the great Spanish and Portuguese explorers, the voyages of Captain Cook, the heroic adventures in darkest Africa -- up to Stanley and Livingstone. Herrmann has a dramatic flair, writing fluently and knowledgeably on divergent facets of the age of discovery.
