The Record's young Hugh Curtis, and Mollie Bourne, collaborate rather than compete in the case involving a missing research physicist and the 30,000 pound ransom demanded- to be turned over by his daughter, a good time girl not on the best of terms with her father. The Record comes up with the sum and the transfer is made- by Hugh- with Mollie close on his heels and able to help solve a ""commercial venture"" which leads to blackmail and murder.... Less time is spent- or misspent- on the silly-shallying between these two, more on the case at hand, to improve this series- not the best yet.
